Guest Post and Giveaway with Cat Grant and Rachel Haimowitz

I am all kinds of excited to have Cat Grant and Rachel Haimowitz on the blog today talking about Power Play: Awakening a book I love so much, you can check out the Epic Pants Losing it caused.  They also brought a giveaway and your comment is needed to win.

Thank you for joining us on the Power Play: Awakening virtual release tour! *throws penis-shaped confetti borrowed from Anne Tenino* No party is complete without favors, so we'll be giving away winner’s choice of one backlist book from Cat or Rachel to one lucky commenter from this blog at the end of the tour. We'll also be giving away a lovely custom chainmail bracelet with a silver padlock clasp (handmade by the awesome Amara Devonte) to one lucky commenter drawn from all the tour stops, so follow along and party with us at each--you can earn an entry at every stop!

Kink for Beginners, Part One

Ever wanted to dip your toes into the kinky end of the pool, but have no idea where to start? I had the same problem when I first came out kinky about a decade ago – but luckily, everyone I met in my local scene was quite friendly to newbies.
Of course, that was long before Fetlife (www.fetlife.com), also known as “Facebook for perverts,” an invaluable resource for nervous beginners. There are forums on every possible topic and style of play (and believe me, if you can imagine it, somebody somewhere has no only done it, but is an expert on it!) as well as a search engine to help you find fellow kinksters in your area.

Kink Academy is another fine resource (http://www.kinkacademy.com/home/). There are tons of videos on this site, mostly how-tos on various types of play and interviews with well-known kinksters. As with Fetlife, you have to sign up for a membership, which is free.

There are also a couple of good general intro books I’d like to recommend: SM101 by Jay Wiseman and Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns by Philip Miller and Molly Devon. (SM101 is available in both print & electronic versions, Screw the Roses in trade paperback.)

When you’re ready to venture out and meet people face to face, a munch is a good place to start. A munch is basically a meal in a public restaurant with a group of like-minded people. No play takes place – just dinner and discussion. Most local kink groups have at least one munch per month. If you live in a large metropolitan area, you’ll have your pick of events.

Once you get to know people in your local kink scene, you might get invited to a private play party. I remember my first party – I didn’t really know anyone other than the hosts, so I hung back and watched, trying to make myself as unobtrusive as possible (which is funny, because I’m pretty hard to miss!). You probably won’t play your first few times out, so look upon it as another opportunity to meet and connect with people – and when you finally do play, it’ll be a lot more fun!

To be continued… :-)

Blurb:
Brandon McKinney is a man reborn. Newly awakened to the notion of consensual power exchange and the submissive urges inside him, he begs for a second chance from the man who opened his eyes to this world: Silicon Valley superstar Jonathan Watkins. But no birth is absent pain, and Brandon’s is no exception. He fears he’s not strong enough to see it through.

Jonathan knows better. He’s seen the iron core inside his new submissive, and the wounded heart inside him too. He means to teach Brandon to heal the one with the other. They have five months left on their contract, after all, and Jonathan has done more with less before.

It’s tough to stay objective, though, when you’re falling in love. Shame Brandon doesn’t feel the same. He’s only there for the three-million-dollar payout at contract’s end—a fact that Jonathan, nursing his own wounded heart, reminds himself of each day. For even as Brandon’s barriers break and his mind expands, even as he grows to love his place at Jonathan’s feet, he’ll never love life with a sadist—especially one who cannot escape the public eye.

About the authors:
Rachel Haimowitz is an M/M erotic romance author, a freelance writer and editor, and the Managing Editor of Riptide Publishing. She's also a sadist with a pesky conscience, shamelessly silly, and quite proudly pervish. Fortunately, all those things make writing a lot more fun for her . . . if not so much for her characters.

When she's not writing about hot guys getting it on (or just plain getting it; her characters rarely escape a story unscathed), she loves to read, hike, camp, sing, perform in community theater, and glue captions to cats. She also has a particular fondness for her very needy dog, her even needier cat, and shouting at kids to get off her lawn.

You can find Rachel at her website, Tweeting as RachelHaimowitz, chatting in the Goodreads forums, and blogging at Fantasy Unbound. She loves to hear from folks, so feel free to drop her a line anytime at metarachel (at) gmail (dot) com.

EPIC Award–winning author Cat Grant lives by the sea in beautiful Monterey, California, with one persnickety feline and entirely too many books and DVDs. When
she's not writing, she sings along (badly!) to whatever's on her iPod shuffle, watches lots of movies, and fantasizes about kinky sex with Michael Fassbender.

  5. People from all walks of life generally like to know there are others out there that are into the same things that they are. I think it is great that you have given others some websites and information/personal insight to help them find their way.

  15. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of BDSM authors have Fetlife accounts. I know a couple that do. You can get so much useful information from that site. It would be great for story inspiration/ideas.

  16. Informative post! I have been working through SM101 for a couple of months now (too much great smutty fiction has been distracting me). Didn't know about Kink Academy-- will definitely check that out.

Ah, local play parties. I remember my first one. I was working on an anthropology paper about swinging, from an AfAm perspective (no one at the party believed that, though, hehehe). I was armed with pen and paper (for notetaking) and a camera (still can't believe people let me take pics-- exhibitionists, I guess) and my husband. Who brought his girlfriend (ah, those wacky wild open marriage days). I had a lot of fun with my "research."

Enough about me. Just finished Power Play:Awakening. I loved it, as I did PP:Resistance. I would much rather see Rachel and Cat's books on the best seller's list than a certain numerical set of books that are the rave in my local community (and everywhere else, apparently). How the hell do we get the word out about the Power Play books? I have been posting wherever I can, but these books deserve much more attention. And Goddess, I do hope there will be more about Bran and Jonathan in the future.

Never say never - although Rachel & I will probably be busy with other projects until next year.

Thanks for loving and championing Power Play. Fans like you are the reason I keep writing. :)
