Interview & Giveaway: Dirty Deeds by SE Jakes

~I have SE Jakes on the blog today, answering all the questions and bringing an amazing giveaway. Lets give a big welcome!~

Hey everyone!!! Thanks to Pants off Reviews for having me back here for my Dirty Deeds blog tour :) Dirty Deeds is the first in this spin-off series of Hell or High Water. Dirty Deeds focuses on Cillian and Mal, two characters who’ve been in both Hell or High Water books 1 & 2 (Catch a Ghost and Long Time Gone.) Dirty Deeds # 1 captures a very specific moment in time for the Cillian (the spook) and Mal (the former SEAL in exile).

Tell us a bit about yourself, and how long you've been writing?
I’ve been writing for what feels like forever! For publishing purposed, I started Bound by Honor (and Bound for Keeps) in 2009, and contracted Bound by Honor in 2010. And then I had 3 SE Jakes books out in 2011 and I haven’t stopped.

Where do you get your inspiration for writing damaged/broken men?
The characters pick me—I have more of them lined up and waiting patiently for their stories than I know what to do with (which is a good thing)…there’s just something about a really strong man who finally finds that one person he can let his guard down around.

3) What got you interested in writing about men in the armed forces? I love reading books about military guys (and TV / Movies / bios. Etc)…so writing about them was a natural extension.

Can you tell us a bit about your newest release, and any upcoming releases planned?
Dirty Deeds is the first book in a series, starring Cillian (a spook) and Mal (a former Navy SEAL). They were introduced in the Hell or High Water series, and this book runs along part of the same timeline as the 3rd Hell or High Water book, Daylight Again. Mal’s been charged with watching Cillian, a spy who’s been involved in his former SEAL team’s business for the past several years.

What is your writing process like and do you set any specific goals for yourself with each new project?
I write every day because I can’t not write every day—I’m lucky to have a job I love, and it can pretty much consume me. If I don’t write, I get cranky. Really cranky. I write out of order and I work on multiple projects at once. I also like the pressure of deadlines. And I don’t plot---I listen to my characters and let them lead the way. All in all, weekly I’m probably writing somewhere around 25K plus. Usually the plus. As for goals, for me the most important thing is to write books I want to
read—you can’t try to follow trends or listen to anyone who says there are rules. If you love what you’re writing, there are going to be readers who love it too. I can promise you that. And when you do that, you’re going to grow as a writer, because you’re going to find new ways of telling your stories. A huge part of my writing process is also working with editors who love my work enough to rip it apart and make me a better writer.

Pants, is it better to write with them on or off?
Well, I am a pantser so…

Thanks so much for stopping by and answering a few questions.

Dirty Deeds: Dirty Deeds book 1

Two seasoned operatives finally meet their match: each other.

Cillian works for the mysterious Special Branch 20: an organization that runs black ops commissioned by the British government. His specialty is deep undercover assignments with virtually no support. He’s been alone for so long that he no longer knows anything else.

Mal’s also used to being alone. Wanted in several states and even more countries, he’s not allowed in the vicinity of any of his former Navy SEAL teammates. And his current assignment is to track Cillian in order to discover the spook’s endgame. Except he’s no longer sure which one of them is getting played.

Cillian isn’t about to let the mission that’s consumed him for the past several years crumble because an outsider is poking around where he doesn’t belong. But Mal forces his way through Cillian’s defenses—and into his heart—exposing a devastating betrayal that could destroy them both.
