Review: Transparency by Ethan Stone & Sara York

Transparency by Ethan Stone & Sara York
Self-Published
Short Story: 49pgs
3.5 Pants Off

Blurb:
Charlie is the quintessential bear. Big, muscular and hairy. But that isn’t the type of men he’s attracted to. He is drawn to men like Taylor—short, smooth, and sexy. Taylor is Charlie’s idea of the perfect twink. But there’s something about Taylor Charlie doesn’t know. Taylor is unsure about a lot of things, but when he sees Charlie, he instantly knows he wants him. The only issue standing in his way is how Taylor views his own masculinity. He’s afraid that Charlie will leave once he knows the secret Taylor wants to keep hidden. Can he be transparent with Charlie and allow him to look behind the image he's so carefully constructed?

Review
Taylor is Female to Male transgender and he is just looking for love and a guy to spend his nights with. Bad experiences have led to him to give up hope on finding a man that will understand he doesn't have a dick but that doesn’t mean he isn't all male. He hits up glory holes giving blow jobs to get himself off and live in his fantasies of being in love. When he hits up his usual spot for a little blow action and spots the man of his dreams. Taylor knows that he'll never land a guy his Bear, so he knows to be content with his fantasies and glory hole fun.

Charlie is looking for a sexy twink and he happened to just walk through the door. Charlie would love to get to know his sexy little twink, but before he can even come down from his orgasm boy is out the door so fast. Charlie is alright with waiting cus he knows he'll see the beautiful boy again and catch him before he can run.

While this story is very short it really manages to hit on some heavy content and manages to come out being very feel good and leaving me the reader happy. Enough reality in the story to make you want the characters HEA, and while I like reality a little scene at the end there felt fake to me. I understand what the authors were trying to do, a way to prove Charlie's investment in this new relationship with a trans individual I felt like he did enough by just accepting Taylor. So Charlie's little douchebag friend there felt a bit contrived.

Overall, I really liked the story and it does have a positive vibe that I wish existed in RL. I am always happy to read about Trans* characters and Transparency invokes a nice reaction for my feels. A cute read!!

Interview with Ethan Stone

I am so very excited to have Ethan Stone on Pants Off today! This is my most fun interview yet, and I loved how he answers all my questions honestly. No holding back! Please help me give a warm welcome to Ethan Stone.

Tell us a bit about yourself and how long you've been writing?
I’ve always had a very vivid imagination. Early on it was acting out adventures in the woods behind my house. Then I started putting pen to paper. For years creating my own soap opera was my creative outlet.

Was gay romance something you always wanted to write? Or did you develop an interest over time?
I’ve written many erotic stories which I put on websites like Nifty. I had ideas for stories with main characters who were gay but didn’t think there would ever be a market for the stories. Discovering the m/m market was a monumental event in my life. Finding an outlet for my ideas was awesome.

You have a few new releases out. Can you talk a bit about them, and your future plans in writing?
Subject 13 is a government conspiracy/thriller. Luke Kincaid tries to stop his ex-boyfriend from marrying a woman but fails and finds friendship and more with an old friend-Ben Skinner. I loved writing Luke and Ben and would love to write the next chapter in their story. Subject 13 is available from Amber Allure.

Bartender, PI is a fun and lighthearted novella available from Silver Publishing. Linc Carpenter, a disgraced pro hockey player, tries his hand at both bartender and private investigator. He’s rather inept and incompetent but his heart’s in the right spot. He meets bodyguard Brady Williams who stands in his way. Linc and Brady definitely deserve another story, I just have to find the right idea.

My writing future? Hopefully there is one. I haven’t been able to focus on a story. There’s been drama in my personal life and that’s
created problems with my muse. I’m hoping my muse comes back soon.

I have a love/hate relationship with Flesh from In The Flesh. Was there a point in writing his character that you felt like 'Maybe he's a bit too much'
I have a love/hate relationship with Cristian Flesh too. And believe it or not, I did tone him down from the first draft. I did wonder if readers would hate him. But I’ve known men like him. The love me or leave me type guy who don’t make apologies for who they are. And it’s for the same reason that Cristian is a hard man to write.

I am a huge fan of Interracial/Multicultural love in M/M books, it's one of the reasons why I enjoyed In The Flesh. Can we expect another interracial love story from you?
Subject 13 featured Kyle Morgan, a black man, and I would like to write a story for him. I do like Interracial/Multicultural love stories as well. I don’t resist if a character tells me he is something other than white. I’ve never been about skin color in my personal relationships and my writing reflects that.

Who has it better Top or Bottom?
That’s like asking which is better, pizza or ice cream. They’re both absolutely, fucking, amazingly fabulous! I can enjoy either role equally, depending on the man I’m with. For me, topping is enjoyable no matter who I’m with. With bottoming it depends on who I’m with and it’s not size that makes the difference. I’ve been hung dudes who don’t know what the hell they’re doing and I’ve been with guys who average sized cocks or even smaller than average who rocked my world! Damn, I sound like a whore. Well, if the condom fits.

~ ^_^ Love the answer ~

Pants, is it better to write with them on or off? *My own little research*
Pants off are much better for those scenes that involve hot sex. Saves time and all that.

The gay Twilight, would you write it? *Of course with sex and all that*
You can just about guaran-fuckin’-tee I will never write a vampire book. I know a lot of people who love them but they’re not my thing. If I were to ever write a bloodsucker story it would have to be totally different. Though I did have an idea once about a vampire who’s bite turned people gay. He’s not evil…just lonely.

Vampire's aren't your thing *mind blown* may I ask why no vampires? So do you like Werewolves a little more, or do they growl just a little too much?
I do like werewolves a little more than vampires, though I'm not sure why. With vampires it seems like there is no way the story different. There's only so many ways to tell the mythology and they've all been done.

How do you feel about a 3-way romance in books? Believable or Not?
If you had asked me a year ago my answer at the time would’ve been different. Back then I would’ve said absolutely yes. Because I was part of (what I thought) was a fairly successful three way romance. Now, I’d say absolutely not.

~My mind just went to seriously pervy places~

Thanks Ethan for being here today and you are welcome to comeback ANYTIME!

Subject 13 by Ethan Stone

Subject 13 by Ethan Stone
Amber Allure
Novel
4 Pants off

Blurb:
Luke Kincaid's life is exploding all around him. First his lover leaves him to marry a woman, then childhood nightmares return with a vengeance.

Luke’s friendship with Ben Skinner and relationship with Kyle Morgan helps him heal his broken heart, but the nightmares, which are actually repressed memories, threaten to destroy the peace he has found.

Soon, Luke’s investigation into his past puts his life—and the lives of the people he cares about—in danger. But he refuses to give up, not even when he finds out he is connected to a massive government cover-up...

Review:
The books I end up liking always surprise me, and Subject 13 definitely did surprise me because I wasn’t really feeling it in the beginning. I did really enjoy it by the end there, though it did feel a bit rushed and all over the place.

Luke has just been dumped by his long time boyfriend for a woman. So he’s having a hard time wrapping his mind around why his lover Shane has ended things so suddenly and is getting married. Well he decides he wants to confront Shane on the day of his wedding. He’s left hurting a lot that day, but does rekindle an old friendship and gains a new one.

Luke is plagued by dreams he use to have as a young boy, there more intense and they are starting to feel like memories he repressed for many years. There seems to be more questions popping up than answers and Luke is determined to find out what happened to him before he was found in the dessert barely alive at the age of six. His investigation gets him caught up in an army cover up, and he might be putting those he care for in danger.

I really enjoyed reading this one. Kind of shocking since the whole army cover-up mystery wasn’t very strong or believable, and I’m not one hundred invested in Luke as a character. I did enjoy the best-friends to lover’s trope it gets me every time! I also enjoyed the little interracial love thrown in, while it didn’t last it sure was freaking hot as hell.

While found this story to be lacking compared to what I’ve read from the author before, it still had the honesty in the writing, which I think fans will appreciate. All the raunchy man love your heart can take, and the happy ending we all long for. I enjoyed the twist at the end, just when I thought it was over ‘bam’ I get hit with a surprise. Sequel I predict a sequel.

Overall, I liked it and look forward to reading more from Ethan Stone, his writing is sexy!

In The Flesh

In The Flesh (Flesh #1) by Ethan Stone
Dreamspinner Press
Crime/Mystery
Novel
4 out of 5

Blurb:
Reno Detective Cristian Flesh lives his life by a strict set of personal rules, preferring one-time flings and anonymous encounters to committed relationships. His rules work for him... until his life is turned upside down when first, a former lover, a famous televangelist, is attacked, and then one of his one-night stands is murdered, making Cristian the prime suspect.

When handsome lawyer Colby Maddox takes his case, Cristian finds himself wanting to break all his rules about relationships. The instant attraction between them is undeniable. But before they can contemplate any kind of future together, they’ll have to clear Cristian’s name by finding the real murderer.

Review:
In The Flesh is a hard book to rate and a hard book to love, yet I am infatuated with the story and the characters. Let me tell you, that is no easy accomplishment because they characters are a bit vile and mostly stupid. Yet, it’s a great mystery and crime drama, small on the romantic aspect big on the ‘lets get it on’ all the time with mostly anyone.

Christian Flesh is a gay cop and he does not try to hide it, when he comes under suspicion for murder his life starts to go in the dumps until a certain sexy lawyer comes in and saves the day. What makes the story something kind of special are the incidents and sexual escapades leading up to Flesh being under suspicion. A colourful assortment of characters, add a great and fun mix to the story line.

We have the TV preacher, who goes on and on about homosexuality up on the pulpit, but has boy toys all over the city. The gay cop in hiding, who is a complete asshole because he swears he’s not gay. The street kid, with the heart of gold, and the very sexy lawyer. What all these characters have in common is that all of them have been inside Flesh, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The mystery aspect of the book is well done, but not very hard to figure out. Its one of those domino effect kind of mystery, you hit one, and all go a tumbling. Flesh just does not know when to cool it, but its his stubbornness that eventually lead to good results, or should I say his penis. His sexual escapades make up most of the book, and in the beginning, I did not mind it until he started to go overboard. It is different to be sleeping around when you are single; it becomes something else when you are starting a relationship.

Flesh and Colby (his lawyer) is quite hot, but I wanted more from both characters. I wanted Flesh to keep it in the pants, and I wanted Colby to stand up and tell Flesh to grow up already.

If someone says to me, “I can’t promise monogamy”. My answer would be “then I can’t promise you, my dick in your ass”. Not some “just tell me about it after”. That shit pissed me off.

I did enjoy reading the book, its entertaining and fast paced. I really liked the interracial love, as Colby being a black man. I just love when different races get together; it makes my heart feel super happy. I look forward to other books in the series, in hopes that Flesh ceases to keep pissing me off.

SideNote- That cover, the person looks like a freaking ALIEN!
